Configuration

Settings you set on your own machine, in CI or in your agent's config.

Runner and MCP

Setting Used by Purpose
--server <url> runner Skeg API to talk to. Wins over every other source. Use https://api.getskeg.dev.
SKEG_TOKEN mcp, doctor Project token from Settings → Agent tokens.
SKEG_RUNNER_TOKEN run, diagnostics, bridge Account session token, for example from a CI login. Preferred over --password, which other local users can read.
--email, --password run, diagnostics, bridge Account credentials.
--target <name> / SKEG_TARGET mcp Saved target to drive when a tool names none. Default: the project's default target.
.skeg.json {"target": "<name>"} mcp Same, read from the working directory.
ANTHROPIC_API_KEY / OPENAI_API_KEY mcp Model key for goal runs and ports. Replays and recordings need none.
SKEG_LLM_PROVIDER, SKEG_LLM_MODEL, SKEG_LLM_ENDPOINT, SKEG_LLM_API_KEY mcp Override the goal model's provider, model, endpoint or key.
XDG_CONFIG_HOME runner Moves the runner's stored pairing (default ~/.config/skeg/).

Server URL precedence

Highest wins:

Client Order
runner --server → URL baked into the installed runner → SKEG_SERVER_URL → http://localhost:8080
Skeg Runner tray app URL baked into the app → SKEG_SERVER_URL → http://localhost:8080

An installed runner already carries the production URL. Setting SKEG_SERVER_URL does not change it. Pass --server instead.

Files the runner writes

Path Holds
~/.config/skeg/daemon.token This machine's runner pairing. Delete it to pair again.
~/.config/skeg/runner.id This machine's runner id.
~/.config/skeg/skeg-runner Launcher the tray app creates, for MCP clients.
